Sometimes, knowing where to turn can make all the difference.
Support can take many forms.
It can be the comfort of having someone—or a beloved animal—by your side. It can be a friend who listens. And during some of life’s most difficult moments, it can mean having someone to reach out to when you don’t know what to do next.
That’s why we’re proud to highlight the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, one of the organizations and resources we’re supporting as part of Support Pets Gives Back.
What Is the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline?
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline connects people experiencing mental health struggles, emotional distress, suicidal crisis, or substance-use concerns with crisis support.
People can call or text 988, or chat online at 988lifeline.org, to connect with a trained crisis counselor.
Support is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
You Don’t Have to Be in Crisis to Reach Out
One important thing to know about 988 is that you don’t have to wait until a situation becomes a crisis to reach out.
If you’re struggling emotionally, worried about your mental health, concerned about substance use, or simply need someone to talk to, 988 is there.
You can also reach out if you’re worried about someone you care about and aren’t sure what to do next.
Sometimes, taking that first step and talking with someone can help make a difficult moment feel a little less overwhelming.
Three Numbers Worth Knowing
Mental health can affect anyone, and difficult moments don’t always come with a clear next step.
That’s part of what makes 988 such an important resource.
You may never need to use it yourself. But knowing the number means you can remember it for yourself, share it with someone you love, or have it ready if someone around you needs support.
Call or text 988.
